What’s in the lab and what can you do there?
I have moved out two-thirds of my own lab to Saltsjöbaden and added that to a standard equipped school laboratory. We have, for example, experimented with green fluorescent protein, GFP, based on the 2008 Nobel Prize.
Why are you doing this?
The National Agency for Education has reported on Swedish students’ deteriorating skills in science and mathematics, and this is something that also has become evident in higher education. To begin with basic teaching at university or college is a waste of everyone’s resources. Improvement efforts in this area need to be done during high school years, or better still in elementary school.
