Director Formulation Science
Are you a leader with a passion for people and formulation science? Do you want to provide value to industry and society through innovative research and development? If so, we have the perfect position for you.
About us
RISE Research Institutes of Sweden is Sweden’s research institute and innovation partner. Through international collaboration with industry, academia and the public sector, we ensure business competitiveness and contribute to a sustainable society.
The Department Chemical Process and Pharmaceutical Development is an innovation partner to large and small companies primarily in the fields of pharmaceuticals, biobased chemicals and MedTech. We develop new processes and products in commercial projects as well as projects funded through research grants. The department has staff on sites in Stockholm, Södertälje and Lund. Our key areas of expertise are formulation, synthetic and analytical chemistry and chemical process development. We operate GMP facilities and also provide CMC expertise.
About the role
As the Director of the Formulation Science Unit you will lead and develop a team of around 15 scientists placed in Stockholm and Lund. Our scientists work with advanced pharmaceutical formulations (primarily non GMP) as well as formulation of food products and MedTech products. The unit is host to two large grant funded research projects NextBioForm and RealHOPE.
In collaboration with the department’s leadership team, and our scientists, you define both the short term and strategic direction for our work in formulation science. As Director you provide inspiration and advice to our scientists and have an overall responsibility for the unit’s project portfolio and for ensuring that projects are delivered in a professional manner. Together with colleagues at RISE (including formulation scientists at our GMP site in Södertälje) and with our partners you support the initiation and implementation of important research and development projects. You report to the head of the department and are a member of the leadership team. You will be based at our Stockholm site.
To be able to perform well in the role we believe that reasonable communication skills in Swedish are important, but you do not have to be fully fluent when you start the position.
Who are you?
We believe that you have a PhD from a relevant field and have worked in a managerial position in industry or academia.
To be successful in this role you need excellent leadership skills and the ability to create the conditions and opportunities necessary for both senior and junior scientists to perform and develop. You inspire your staff to excel through a responsive, collaborative and result oriented leadership.
You have a good understanding of formulation development where biophysical, surface and colloid chemistry are important components. Knowledge of protein formulation, formulation of oligonucleotides and other types of drug delivery systems is positive but not essential.
In a research institute, external collaborations, commercial and other, are the essence of the business. Experience of commercial or grant funded collaborations are necessary for the role.
