Björn Arvidsson: ”As uncertainty grows, clarity becomes a strength”

Sweden has all the prerequisites to be a strong life science nation. But in a time of geopolitical tension, shorter value chains and growing demands for resilience, it is no longer enough to be “good at many things”, Björn Arvidsson writes in a column.

We often speak of life science as a single sector, but I would argue that it is better understood as a system of systems. Clinical practice intersects with research, education, industry, data, regulation, logistics, skills supply and budgetary realities. In stable times, a degree of ambiguity is manageable: a pilot project here, a local exemption there, parallel solutions that are supposed to be “harmonised” over time.
