600 million SEK for life science - "Should not be the country of moderation"
”We should not be the country of moderation. We should compete with the absolute best in the world,” said Minister of Education Johan Pehrson (L) during a press conference on Thursday about the research and innovation proposition for 2025-2028.
He emphasized that the government is now making a record-breaking investment in research in Sweden and announced, among other things, that an investment of 600 million SEK will be made in life science and health during the period in question.
"We know that this sector actually accounts for 10 percent of Sweden's exports and is one of our important basic industries," he said.
During the press conference, Johan Pehrson emphasized that excellent research should be prioritized over breadth. As part of this, 1.4 billion SEK is allocated to the Swedish Research Council to expand excellence centers, establish excellence clusters, and to initiate a new program for breakthrough technology.
Other investments mentioned during the press conference were 100 million SEK for a special initiative on AI, as well as investments in the further development of ESS, Max IV, and SciLifeLab.
