Björn Arvidsson: ”We must raise our gaze to find the answers of the future”

A system approach isn't just about understanding complexity – it's about making better decisions. By seeing ourselves as part of larger systems, we can better anticipate the consequences of our actions, writes Björn Arvidsson in a column.

The events of recent years have shown with brutal clarity how vulnerable we are to changes in systems that we may have previously taken for granted. The pandemic demonstrated how interconnected the world's countries are and how quickly a virus can spread through our global networks. The war in Ukraine has affected energy prices, food prices, and economic systems far beyond the geographical boundaries of the conflict. These events have forced us to recognize that our local systems – whether healthcare, business, or community functions – are inextricably linked to larger global systems.
