USB recycler for liquid chromatography

The Smartsaver recycler from Biotech AB is designed to recycle the uncontaminated mobile phase in isocratic liquid chromatography.

The device is basically a three-way valve placed downstream of the detector and, according to the manufacturer, makes it possible to reuse up to 90% of the mobile phase of a run. Via the valve, the mobile phase is directed either to waste or back to the reservoir to be used again. The switch is controlled by signals from the detector, with a delay for the material in the peaks to be transported from detector to recycler. The default position of the recycler directs the mobile phase to waste, thus ensuring that the solvent reservoir is not contaminated in case of power failure. The software provided makes it possible to configure necessary parameters.
