Virology professor on the threat from X: ”The next pandemic could be worse“

The question is not if, but when we will be affected by a new unknown virus that causes yet another pandemic. Are we sufficiently prepared? "Absolutely not!", responds virologist Niklas Arnberg.

"X" is the name that researchers and the World Health Organization (WHO) have given to the yet unknown pathogen/disease that will cause the next pandemic. Because it will come – that is something the scientific community agrees on.

– Given that the population is increasing – we are now more than eight billion people – and that we love to travel, combined with climate change and a food industry that in some parts of the world does not operate sustainably, the risk of new outbreaks and pandemics is probably increasing rather than decreasing, says Niklas Arnberg, professor of virology at Umeå University, and Secretary General of the Pandemic Fund.
