Mingling types - who to aim for and who to avoid:

Read about different mingling types - who are you?
The anchor

The anchor is extremely sociable and probably interesting to talk to, and so he or she gets locked up in the first conversation and stays there. It doesn’t matter. The anchor talks and pays undivided attention to anyone about anything, as long as there is enough oxygen in the room. If you are networking: Stay away!

The teaser

“So, I really think we should give Intelligent Design a break. These guys have a point. Seriously!”. That’s a typical thing for tha teaser to say. The teaser usually missed the dress code part of the invitation and keeps at least one pair of glasses and some pens in his pocket. His snack plate is full and stays full: the teaser has no time to eat when there are constantly new possibilities to provoke. This might be an interesting person but it is hard to get the teaser to talk business.

The decoration

The decoration is usually hard to spot in a room filled with people. Typical areas of interest are close to the exit, close to any furniture such as tables, large plants or pillars. Colors to look for are black and grey. The decoration probably keeps a steady look at the snack plate in his or her hand and avoids eye contact. It might be worth the effort to find this person though. He or she could be the unpolished diamond you are looking for.

The wolf pack

The wolf pack sticks to familiar persons but has the honest intention of meeting new people. Searching the room in groups of three to four, they are usually unsuccessful, however, and after a few minutes will be found sitting on the only sofa by the far wall of the room.

The vagabond

The vagabond is great company if you are not at your best — he will never notice your lack of interest. The only effort demanded in this conversation is physical presence and the occasional “mhm” and “oh’s”. Since there is an endless stream of nonsense but all the while exotic stories, the mingle session will be over before you know it if you stop here.
